Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity refers to the different types of brains/minds that exist. Below are some simple explanations around words you may hear.

Neurodiversity Explained

Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice

To be neuro-diversity affirming (or neuroaffirming) means that we acknowledge and accept that each type of brain (neurotype) has its own unique strengths and support needs.

Look below to see how at WonderGlow OT we endeavour to be neuroaffirming.

We accept you for who you are.

We set goals collaboratively with you, and when possible with your child.

We don't attempt to change or "fix" because of your neurotype.

We acknowledge and use your child's strengths and interests to guide therapy.

We prioritise building safe and authentic connections with you and your family.

We aim to validate you and your child's thoughts and feelings, without judgement.

We encourage autonomy and self-advocacy with your child, so they know their voice matters.

We listen to other neurodivergent voices in the community to help guide new ways of thinking and doing.
